How to add your products to the Global Affiliate Program to drive more sales
On this page
The Curios Global Affiliate Program gives other people an incentive to promote your products and send new customers your way.
You choose which products participate, set the commission you're willing to pay when an affiliate generates a sale, and can even add a discount that gives customers another reason to buy.
Once enabled, your products can be discovered and promoted by affiliates across the growing Curios affiliate ecosystem, including external affiliate network partners, creators cross-promoting each other's work, influencers in the Curios network, and more.
You only pay an affiliate commission when their promotion results in a sale.
How the Curios Global Affiliate Program works
The idea is simple:
You make a product available to affiliates → an affiliate promotes it → a customer purchases through the affiliate → the affiliate earns the commission you set.
Curios is continually growing its network of potential affiliates and promotional partners. That can include:
- Affiliates reached through external affiliate network partnerships
- Other creators, including creator friends and colleagues who want to cross-promote each other's products
- Influencers participating in Curios' growing in-house influencer network
- Additional affiliate and promotional partnerships as the Curios network expands
Products you enable for the program can appear in the Curios affiliate marketplace, where creators, influencers, and partners can discover products available to promote.
It's another way to expand the potential reach of your work beyond the audience you're already building yourself.
How to enable the Affiliate Program
From Curios Creator Studio:
- Open Promote in the left navigation.
- Select Affiliate Program.
- Under Your products, find the product you want affiliates to be able to promote.
- Turn on the toggle next to that product.
- Set the Affiliate Commission you want to offer.
- If desired, set a Buyer Discount for customers who purchase through an affiliate promotion.
That's it. Once a product is enabled, it can participate in the affiliate program under the commission and discount settings you've selected.
If you want to make your entire eligible catalog available, use Enable all instead of turning products on individually.
Set your default affiliate commission
At the top of the Affiliate Program page, you'll find the Default affiliate commission setting.
This lets you establish a default commission percentage for your products rather than configuring everything individually.
Available commission percentages range from 5% to 50%, in 5% increments.
The commission is the portion associated with a qualifying affiliate-generated sale that goes to the affiliate who generated it.
A more competitive commission can give affiliates a stronger incentive to choose and promote your products. When deciding what to offer, consider your product price, your margins, and how much you're comfortable investing to acquire a sale through an affiliate.
Add a buyer discount
You can also give customers who purchase through an affiliate a special discount.
The Default buyer discount can range from 0% to 50%, in 5% increments.
For example, you might configure:
20% affiliate commission + 10% buyer discount
That gives the affiliate an incentive to promote your product while also giving their audience a clear reason to purchase through their promotion.
A buyer discount isn't required. You can leave it at 0% if you don't want to offer one.
Commission and discount limits
Affiliate commissions and buyer discounts can each be set as high as 50%.
However, the affiliate commission and buyer discount combined cannot exceed 80%.
Keep this in mind when deciding how aggressively you want to incentivize both affiliates and customers.
Set different offers for different products
Your default settings make it easy to establish a starting point across your catalog, but you can also manage affiliate settings at the individual product level.
This gives you flexibility to create different economics for different products.
For example, you might use a larger commission on a product you're particularly interested in promoting, or offer a customer discount on an introductory product designed to bring new people into your catalog.
Your Affiliate Program dashboard displays each product's:
- Format
- Price
- Affiliate Commission
- Buyer Discount
- Platform Fee
- Total Cost
This makes it easier to understand the cost of an affiliate-generated sale before deciding which products and offers make sense for your business.
What should I set my affiliate commission to?
There's no single commission that's right for every creator or product.
Think about what would make your product attractive for someone else to promote while still making the resulting sale worthwhile for you.
A higher commission can create a stronger incentive for affiliates. A buyer discount can make their promotion more compelling to customers. You can use either strategy or combine the two.
You might also approach different products differently.
For example, an author could use a compelling affiliate offer on the first book in a series to bring more readers into the series. A musician might promote an album that introduces listeners to a larger catalog. A filmmaker or other creator might focus affiliate activity on an accessible entry point into their work.
The goal isn't simply to offer the largest percentage possible. It's to create an offer that makes sense for you, the affiliate, and the customer.
Invite other creators to promote your work
Your affiliate strategy doesn't have to depend entirely on affiliates discovering you.
You can also connect with creator friends, colleagues, and complementary creators and explore opportunities to cross-promote each other's work.
This can be especially powerful when your audiences have overlapping interests.
An author might partner with another author writing in a similar genre. Musicians with complementary audiences might introduce their listeners to each other's releases. Filmmakers, comedians, podcasters, influencers, and other creators can find similar opportunities to recommend work they genuinely think their audiences will enjoy.
The result can be a mutually beneficial way for creators to introduce each other to new audiences while earning from the sales they help generate.
Track the commissions you've paid
Curios keeps affiliate commission activity visible in Creator Studio.
To review commissions associated with affiliate-generated orders:
- Open Reports.
- Select Commissions Paid.
Here you can review commission activity, including the date, amount paid, and a description identifying the associated order and product.
This gives you a record of what you're spending on affiliate-generated sales.
Do I have to enable every product?
No. You control which products participate in the Affiliate Program.
Enable individual products when you want to be selective, or use Enable all if you want to make your broader catalog available for affiliate promotion.
Do I have to offer customers a discount?
No. The buyer discount can be set to 0%.
The affiliate commission and buyer discount serve different purposes. The commission rewards the person promoting your product, while the buyer discount can make their offer more compelling to the customer.
You can decide whether using one or both makes sense for a particular product.
Does adding my product guarantee affiliates will promote it?
No. Enabling a product makes it available for affiliate promotion, but it does not guarantee that an affiliate will choose to promote it or that the promotion will generate sales.
Creators can improve the opportunity by making their products attractive to affiliates, setting compelling commission structures, and actively building relationships with creators and other potential promotional partners.
Curios is also continually expanding its affiliate ecosystem through external affiliate network partnerships, creator connections, influencer relationships, and other channels.
Turn your network into another path to discovery
Selling direct doesn't mean growing alone.
The Curios Global Affiliate Program gives creators another way to connect their work with new audiences by rewarding the people who help generate sales.
Choose the products you want to promote. Decide what a successful referral is worth to you. Give affiliates an offer worth sharing. Then let a growing network of creators, influencers, partners, and affiliates help more people discover what you've made.
